In a move to address its aging infrastructure, the Homer-Center School District board has approved the second phase of a major heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) overhaul. This $2.6 million project will introduce new chillers, auditorium air conditioning, and upgraded controls, with McClure Company overseeing the work.
Superintendent Ralph Cecere Jr. emphasized the urgency of the project, noting the existing HVAC system’s frequent breakdowns. The district is opting to give each school building its own heating and cooling system, moving away from the current shared setup.
While the second phase is slated for summer 2025, the first phase, a $700,000 boiler replacement and building envelope sealing at the elementary school, is already in progress.
In addition to the HVAC project, the board also approved the hiring of a new secondary English teacher and a revised athletic training contract, reflecting increased rates due to changes in labor laws.
