Sewer Line Replacement Services in Franklin, IN

It’s the most hidden but most important part of a home’s plumbing system: the sewer line. Sewer lines do the important work of carrying wastewater from toilets, showers, sinks, and other drains from your home to the municipal sewer line. Any issues with a sewer line can have dire consequences inside a home.

For over fifty years, Summers Plumbing Heating and Cooling have provided sewer line services to homeowners in Franklin, IN, and the surrounding communities. Keep reading to learn more about signs of trouble with your sewer line and how Summers can help.

Signs of Sewer Line Problems

Hardly anyone would take time to think about a home’s sewer line when it’s working properly, but it’s hard to think of anything else once it isn’t. Unfortunately, because sewer lines exist out-of-sight and out-of-mind, many homeowners don’t notice early warning signs, meaning they can’t request repairs until the problem has grown to a point that repairs are more likely to be extensive and expensive. To avoid unnecessarily drastic repairs, here are the signs to watch for:

Bad Smells

The smell of sewage is notoriously unpleasant, usually described as being similar to rotten eggs. Traces of this smell outside the home of near drains could be a sign that there is a clog or leak somewhere in a home’s sewer line.

Strange Noises

Homeowners shouldn’t be able to hear noises like gurgles coming from their plumbing fixtures. If noises like that are emanating from toilets as they flush, tubs as they drain, or from water-using appliances like dishwashers and washing machines, it could mean something is creating a blockage in the plumbing system.

Back-Up Drains

One of the worst effects of a damaged sewer line is sewage backup. This messy and extremely unappetizing consequence is a sure sign that something is seriously wrong and requires immediate attention from a plumbing professional.

Lawn Changes

Lawns that have puddles of water or unusually verdant grass, especially if there’s been a lack of precipitation in the area, could be getting their water from leaking sewer lines below the surface.

Pests

Raw sewage can be very attractive to certain insects, who in turn attract other pests who like to eat them. Homeowners who notice an increased number of pests and vermin may be able to point to the sewer line as the culprit.

What to Expect from Sewer Line Services

Homeowners who notice any of the above signs or other indicators of a problem with their sewer line should call Summers Plumbing Heating and Cooling right away. Our technicians will work quickly to accurately diagnose the problem and begin treatments to solve it.

Our sewer line inspections start by using a specialized camera that can be fed into the sewer line via drains on a flexible cable. The camera will help our technician see what is causing the problem. It could be a blockage from foreign objects or plant matter or a crack in the pipes that are allowing sewage to leak out. Once we’ve determined the source of the issue, we can start discussing solutions ranging from cleanings to repairs and replacements.

If a clog or blockage is the reason for your sewer line problems, Summers plumbing technicians can usually clear them using a large snake or high-powered water jets. If there’s cracking or other more severe damage to the sewer line, our technicians can explain several no-dig fixes that may be available, including relining the pipes or pipe bursting.

To reline a pipe, a cylinder coated in resin is inserted into the pipe where the crack has occurred. The resin then hardens, which seals the damage. Relining does decrease the internal circumference of the repaired area, but usually not enough to affect functionality. It’s also a more cost-effective solution than a total line replacement in some cases.

In a pipe bursting scenario, a hydraulic tube is inserted into the existing sewer line and is inflated to widen the existing pipes, then a new sewer line the same size as the old one is installed in the now-widened pipes.

In cases of extreme damage, it is possible that digging will be necessary to complete the repair or replacement. Summers Plumbing Heating and Cooling strives to keep this process from being too great a disruption to homeowners’ lives.
