Toilet Leaks

Toilet Leaks in Columbia City, IN

One of the worst issues a toilet can have since it can be incredibly destructive is a toilet leak. Whether it’s a tiny leak or it’s letting out a ton of water at a time, the leaking water can reach far away from the toilet. This can, in turn, lead to water damaging the floor, walls, or a room below the bathroom. However, it’s also possible for a small leak inside the toilet to go undetected, wasting a significant amount of water over time.

Whenever a toilet is leaking, Summers Plumbing Heating & Cooling can help you fix it fast. We’ve offered plumbing services in Columbia City for more than 50 years. Our team of licensed and insured technicians will make sure the base cause of the leak is found and fixed, so you don’t have anything to worry about.

Toilet Leak Services

Toilet leaks usually develop over time and it’s easy to miss them until one becomes a critical issue. Whenever there’s the possibility of water damage, fast action is needed. That’s why our team is available 24/7 in case you have a plumbing emergency. We can help you fix the leak fast before it causes serious damage to your home.

Even if the toilet doesn’t appear to be leaking, excess water that goes through the toilet can increase your water bills significantly. Other than water on the floor, there are other signs that the toilet may be leaking.

  • The toilet may flush by itself.
  • It’s possible to hear running water when no one is using the toilet.
  • Toilet continues running unless you mess with the handle.
  • The Toilet tank doesn’t empty if you push the handle and let go.
  • Water can be seen going back in the bowl after it’s done flushing.

No matter how big the leak might be, a professional like those at Summers Plumbing Heating & Cooling is needed to make sure it’s fixed right. Our technicians know how to track the leaks and find the source, then determine the right solution to prevent water damage and save your home.

Reasons for a Toilet Leak

There are a few different reasons a toilet can develop a leak, and they can all happen in any home. Some of the most common reasons your toilet may start leaking include the following.

Cracks in the Bowl or Tank

Toilets are designed to last, but due to repeated stress or an accident, a crack can form. Even if the crack starts out small, it will spread and eventually become much larger. If the crack is on the outside of the toilet, it may be easier to see. If it’s on the inside, however, it may not be as noticeable.

Seal Fails

Under the base of the toilet is a wax ring. The weight of the toilet compresses this ring, creating a waterproof seal to prevent water from getting onto the floor. If this fails, it’s possible to see water pooling on the bathroom floor. The seal can fail due to age or loose bolts holding the toilet in place.

Connection from Tank to Bowl

If the tank and bowl are connected with nuts and bolts, they likely have gaskets to help create a seal. Over time, however, the gaskets can wear out and the bolts can become loose. At this point, they’re no longer waterproof.

Flush Valve is Damaged

The valve that controls the toilet’s flushing can become misaligned with the use or wear out over time. This will lead to leaks inside the toilet, causing it to continue running when no one is using it. If the toilet sounds like it’s running on its own, even when no one has used it, it’s a good idea to check the flush valve.

Flapper is Worn

The flapper is the part that lifts to allow water in the toilet, causing it to flush. If the flapper is worn or out of place, it isn’t going to block the opening correctly. If this happens, the toilet may not fill completely. Water will keep going into the bowl, so it’s impossible to flush the toilet.
